Dr. Dong Ji began his education in traditional Chinese medicine in China at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine in 1991 and received his medical degree after a five-year program focused on both Chinese and Western clinical medicine. Because of the enthusiasm for the discovery of scientific basis of acupuncture, he went to the Neuroscience Research Institute at Peking University and became a PhD student with Professor Ji-Sheng Han who has been consecutively funded by National Institutes of Health (NIH, the U.S.) R01 grants for the research on neurobiological basis of pain relief by acupuncture. After he received the doctoral degree in neuroscience, Dr. Ji went to the Institute of Psychiatric Research at Indianan University School of Medicine for the research on alcoholism. Then he went to the prestigious SALK institute and the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California for the further research on addictive disorders. His research and clinical practice has focused on the neurological disorders, such as pain and the mental/psychiatric disorders (i.e., anxiety, depression, addiction, binge drinking and eating). Dr. Ji was the editor-in-chief of The World of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the assistant-editor of Chinese Journal of Pain Medicine. He presently serves as a reviewer for the journal of Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Behavior (published by Elsevier) and an item writer for NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) examinations.
